Douglas Boyd Carpenter

Jan 7, 1958 — Oct 26, 2026

Douglas Boyd Carpenter passed away peacefully at home in Boise, Idaho, on October 26, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 68. Born on January 7, 1958, in La Jolla, California, Douglas lived a life marked by devotion to family, steady friendship, hard work, and a generous heart.

Douglas graduated from Torrey Pines High School in 1976 and attended Palomar Jr. College for one year before moving to Idaho. That move helped shape the course of his life, leading to the community, career, and relationships that meant so much to him over the years.

For 42 years, Douglas worked at Fred Meyer, retiring in 2025. For most of those years, he served as an assistant manager. Through his long career, he met and worked alongside many wonderful friends. He cared deeply for the people around him and truly wanted them to succeed. His commitment to others, his reliability, and the way he encouraged those around him left a lasting impression on coworkers and friends alike.

In 2003, Douglas met the love of his life, Cathy Lewis, and they were later married in 2007. Together they shared 19 years of marriage built on love, companionship, and enjoying life’s simple pleasures. They loved visiting local events together, including Art in the Park, balloon festivals, and watching the Twilight Criterium. They were also big Boise State football fans and found great joy in cheering on their team. At home, Douglas and Cathy loved to spoil their bulldogs, Lucy, Phoebe, and Maggie, who were a cherished part of their family.

Douglas loved his family and valued friendships deeply. He had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh, and was selfless in the way he cared for others. He also enjoyed spending time with his closest friend, Floyd, whose friendship was an important part of his life.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Cathy; his mother, Peggy; his brother, Jeff; his step-daughter, Shea, who shares her life with Tony and their two children; and his nieces and nephews who he loved so much.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marshall; his sisters, Brenda and Lorraine; and his step-son, Scott. Their memories remained with him and were part of the story of the family he loved so much.

Douglas’s family extends heartfelt thanks to Auburn Crest Hospice for their care during his final months. A Celebration of Life will be held in January, with details to be shared on Facebook later.

Douglas will be remembered for his warm humor, his loyalty, his kindness, and the steady, caring way he moved through the world. He leaves behind a legacy of love, friendship, and a life well lived.
