Matthew Jordan

Dear Friends and Family,

It is with unbearable sorrow and grief that I share the news that Matthew went quietly to God on Sunday, June 28, 2026.

He was born in Manhattan, NY on July 13, 1960, to his wonderful parents, Stephen and Johanna (Norgren) Jordan, following his beloved brother Daniel in under a year. The family moved to Orlando, FL when he was in grade school, where he developed a great love for the outdoors and snakes. This was also the time that he and his brother began their lifelong journey to become professional musicians. Matthew traveled the country many times, playing and entertaining crowds all over. It was on one of these tours that we met on his birthday in 1990, and we were later married on April 9, 1995.

Matthew was a great cook, an avid mountain biker, and an outstanding drummer with a vast knowledge of sound and lighting. He was a mentor to many, generously offering his expertise in the music business, and he loved teaching his granddaughters the piano. He was a natural caretaker who would always lend a helping hand to anyone in need.

He is survived by his wife, Vickie; his four children, Tara (Luke Karel) Poncia, Tony (Kristin) Poncia, John (Karen Gray) Poncia, and Jennifer (Jordan) Ragsdale; his mother, Johanna of Orlando, FL; his brother, Daniel and his wife Janet of Orlando, FL; and his brother-in-law, Gary (Pam) Johnson of Waco, TX. He is also survived by his 11 precious grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild, who lovingly called him Popou. He was preceded in death by his father, Steve, as well as his grandparents, an aunt, two uncles, and a cousin.

It is impossible to put into a few words the full life he led. It was filled with travel, great friends, and experiences few get to live. He worked with many great musicians whom he cared for deeply. Some of the bands he played with recently include the Saloonatics, Bobby Dee Keys, Midnight Jury, and The Tics. He was an extremely talented musician, a true gift from God.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all of you who gave so generously through donations and prayers. We also want to thank the nurses and medical staff of Nine Central Saint Alphonsus, as well as Drs. Morrell, Ramen, and the entire transplant team at the University of Utah.

We will miss him more than we can express, and we will love him forever.
