Beatrice Filomena Shape
Nov 10, 1924 — Oct 6, 2026
Beatrice Filomena Shape, 101, of Sun City Center, Florida, passed away on October 6, 2026, at Plaza West Skilled Nursing Facility of Freedom Plaza. She was born on November 10, 1924, at Rochester General Hospital and raised in Rochester, New York.
Beatrice was preceded in death by her parents, Carmella and Anthony Matteo; her husband, Robert Shape; her grandson, Paul Morton; and her brother-in-law, Dean VanOstrand.
She is survived by her son, Harry Morton, and his spouse, Joyce; her granddaughter, Christina Gase, and Christina’s spouse, Gerald II; her grandson Paul’s widow, Rebekah; and her great-grandchildren Varenna, Gabriel, Natalia, and Gerald III. She is also survived by her sister, June VanOstrand, and June’s children Jan, Peter, and Cary Ann.
Beatrice always told her family that she lived a wonderful, beautiful life—one filled with love from her spouse and family, travel, activity, and the companionship of many cherished friends. She enjoyed sports from an early age, especially baseball, and was an active member and student at the Turners in Rochester, where she participated in competitive gymnastics during her youth.
She studied at the Rochester General Hospital School of Nursing, graduating as a medical tech and working for several years as an X-ray technician. Her career later included positions with General Dynamics, and she ultimately served as secretary to the president of General Code Publishers Co., her final employment before retiring to Florida in 1987.
Beatrice was deeply involved in the Freedom Plaza community for many years, embracing the activities, friendships, and opportunities it offered. Her energy, optimism, and love of life were evident to all who knew her.
There will be a Celebration of her Life planned at the Freedom Plaza facility at a later date.
