Dennis A Kramer

Jul 2, 1946 — Oct 8, 2026

Dennis Arthur Kramer, age 80, passed away peacefully on October 8, 2026, concluding a life marked by devotion, discipline, faith, and deep love for his family. Born in Waukesha, Wisconsin, Dennis grew up in Eagle, where he attended St. Theresa’s Catholic School and later graduated from Catholic Memorial High School in 1964. He earned a Bachelor of Science in English and Mathematics from the University of Wisconsin–Whitewater in 1968, followed by a Master’s degree in Business Management, preparing him for a lifetime of leadership and service.

In 1968, Dennis married his high school sweetheart, Betty Schnitzler of Genesee, Wisconsin. Their marriage began with a joyful trip through the southern states before Dennis reported to Naval Aviation Officer Candidate School—an early chapter in a lifelong partnership filled with adventure, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment.

Dennis earned his “Wings of Gold” after months of demanding academic, military, physical, and flight training at Pensacola Naval Air Station and Saufley Field. His aviation journey took him to Corpus Christi, where he flew S‑2 aircraft and mastered carrier landings; to San Diego for navigation and POW survival training; and to Moffett Field, where he learned to fly the P‑3 Orion for anti‑submarine warfare.

His Naval career spanned more than 22 years, taking him across the world. In Oahu, he served with P‑3 Squadron 22, deploying throughout the Western Pacific to the Philippines, Thailand, Guam, and Vietnam in support of the 7th Fleet. He later returned to Pensacola as a pilot instructor, shaping future aviators with the same discipline and precision he brought to every mission. His service continued overseas as a pilot for the Admirals in Taipei, Taiwan.

Back in the United States, Dennis attended the Armed Forces Staff College in Norfolk before joining VP‑23 in Brunswick, Maine, where he completed back‑to‑back tours, including deployments to Bermuda and detachments across Europe. His final assignment brought him once again to NAS Pensacola, where he served as the Director of Schools Command, overseeing the training of all new student aviators and their instructors. In this role, Dennis shaped the future of Naval aviation, ensuring that generations of pilots were trained with excellence, discipline, and the highest standards of safety and skill. He retired with honor as a Commander, closing a military career he deeply loved.

After retiring from the Navy, Dennis embarked on a new chapter of leadership and service. He was selected to become an Owner/Operator with Chick‑fil‑A, opening the Tysons II Galleria Mall location in Northern Virginia. He later accepted one of the company’s first free‑standing units in Florida, moving to Lake Mary, where he operated the restaurant with dedication and care. After 26 years as an Owner/Operator, Dennis retired once more—this time settling in Apollo Beach, Florida, where he could be closer to his children and grandchildren, the people who brought him his greatest joy.

Dennis was a man who embraced life with enthusiasm and heart. He loved boating, fishing, and spending time on the water. He found peace in bird watching, joy in working hard, and fulfillment in the simple moments shared with Betty, his children, and his grandchildren. He had a deep affection for animals and pets, always finding comfort and companionship in their presence. A devout Catholic, he lived his faith quietly but deeply, guided by gratitude, humility, and service. His sense of humor—warm, quick, and often unexpected—brought laughter to those around him and lightened even the hardest days.

Dennis was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Harley Kramer; his beloved daughter Rachel; and his brother Jim. He is survived by his devoted wife Betty; his son Jeff and wife Kristin; his daughter Jennifer and husband Faizal Enu; his grandsons Michael (wife Tabby), Matthew (wife Skyler), and Donovan Enu; and his great‑grandsons Levi and Luke. He is also survived by his siblings Jeanne Koopman, Mary Beitz, and Peter Kramer, who each held a special place in his heart. His family was his greatest pride, and he cherished every moment spent with them.

A Viewing will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2026 from 9:00–10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass at 10:00 a.m. at St. Anne’s Catholic Church in Ruskin, where family and friends will gather to honor Dennis’s life, faith, and service.

A Military Interment Service will take place in the future at Sarasota National Cemetery, where Dennis will be laid to rest with full honors. He will be placed alongside his beloved daughter Rachel, who will be moved from Arlington National Cemetery so they may rest together.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. Anne’s Catholic Church, in Ruskin, FL, to support the construction of their new school—an offering that reflects Dennis’s lifelong commitment to faith, family, and community.

Those who knew Dennis remember him as a man of quiet strength, deep faith, and unwavering integrity. He lived with purpose, led with humility, and loved with his whole heart. His legacy endures in the family he cherished, the aviators he trained, the teams he mentored, and the countless lives he touched with kindness, steadiness, and sincerity.
