Jennie "Joan" Casey, 88, Loving Wife, Mother, Grandmother, Aunt and Friend

Today we celebrate the life of our beloved mother, Jennie Casey, known to many in Philadelphia as "Joan". She was a woman whose warmth, generosity, determination and sense of fun touched everyone fortunate enough to know her.

Jennie Lydia Casey passed away June 20, 2026, surrounded by her family. She was predeceased by her husband, Robert (Bob) N. Casey, to whom she was married just shy of 60 years, her parents, Jennie and Jack Buddendorf, her brother John Buddendorf and sister Donna Donahue, and her grandson Ryan Casey. She is survived by her four children, Michael Casey (Katie), Susanne Roslon (Jerry), Christine Casey and Edward Casey (Jeannie), her six grandchildren, Lauren, Mark, Sean, Sofia, Erick and Jason, three great grandchildren, and, her loving nieces and nephews.

Born in Philadelphia, PA, Jennie was always an outstanding student, graduating second in her class of 1200 girls at Little Flower High School. Later in life, Jennie earned her LPN at Erwin Technical College. She was first in her class. Jennie joined Bob in their life adventure in December 1956. Petaluma, CА was their first home while Bob served in the army, then, they returned to Philadelphia, where their four children were born. Later, Jennie and Bob lived in Upper St. Clair, PA (Pittsburgh), Hercules. CA (San Francisco) and Farmington, CT (Hartford), until they settled into an amazing second chapter in Sun City Center, FL in 1992. Jennie was always on the go, worked part-time off and on in various roles, including as a visiting nurse, and, volunteering practically full time. She was always engaged in serving and helping others. Her favorite activities were years of teaching CPR and going out on calls with the Sun City Center Emergency Squad, and, raising many guide dogs with the Southeastern Guide Dog Association (now Dogs, Inc.). She cherished her friends and their time playing bridge, mahjong, card making, and cornhole. Exercise and walking were a passion; even when health challenges made exercise harder her physical therapists said she was their best student. Of course! Over the years, Jennie and Bob travelled all fifty states, Europe and Asia. Travel enhanced her love of knowledge and keeping up with the world (and the family). She was a lifelong reader and wordsmith, playing Scrabble and solving crosswords. Whether she was biking along a trail, swimming, gathering around a card table, or challenging friends and family to a board game, she brought energy, laughter, and just enough competitive spirit to make things interesting. More often than not, she was the winner - and she enjoyed every minute of it. Most of all, Jennie loved her family. Every day was a gift of time with her children and grandchildren, both in person and over FaceTime. Mike, her oldest son, is known about Aston Gardens for his loving commitment to making sure Mom could live the life she desired and deserved. Mom taught us to keep learning, to help whenever we can, to find joy in the little things, and to make the world brighter wherever we are. We were so lucky to have her and she is an inspiration to us all. She was the best mother and mother-in-law one could ever have. Mom brought beauty and light into this world and will remain in the hearts of all who knew her. Rest peacefully, Mom. We love you always.
