Dan Daisuke Hinatsu

Dan Daisuke Hinatsu, 102, of Portland, Oregon, died peacefully at home on August 1, 2026. He was born on April 3, 1924, in Portland, Oregon to Satoru and Chiye Hinatsu. He was raised in Oswego and Fairview, Oregon before being interned at Minidoka Relocation Camp during WWII. He graduated from Hunt High School in Minidoka and obtained a bachelor's degree from the University of Idaho. He worked as a commercial artist his entire career. He was married to his true love, Masako in 1955. 

Dan didn't talk much, but when he did speak it was worth listening to. He had a lifelong passion for gardening and watercolor painting and retirement brought him time to enjoy traveling, playing golf and smoking cigars.

Dan is survived by his children: Stanley (Sue Kenyon), Sally (Dave Kendall), Michele (Steven Exe), and Diana; and grandchildren: Elizabeth (Brian Goldfain), Alison and Audrey (Mark Renken); great grandchild: Tobias. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, parents and siblings. 

Interment service will be held at Willamette National Cemetery on August 31, 2026 at 10:00 AM. Memorial donations may be made to Ikoi no Kai, Japanese American Museum of Oregon or Portland Art Museum.
