Brendan Thomas Reilley
Jun 4, 1980 — Oct 27, 2026
Brendan Thomas Reilley, 46, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on October 27, 2026.
Born on June 4, 1980, Brendan was raised on Hilton Head Island, where the Reilley family has been part of the community for more than five decades. He graduated from Hilton Head High School before attending the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park, New York.
Brendan's career in hospitality began at an early age, bussing tables at the original Crazy Crab on Jarvis Creek. He also embraced fatherhood early in life with the birth of his first son. After college, Brendan relocated to Maui with his high school sweetheart, Jill Reilley, where they managed Reilley's Kaanapali together, and they welcomed three daughters. Over the decades that followed, he became a driving force in the growth of his family's restaurant businesses and an influential figure in the Lowcountry's hospitality industry.
After becoming a partner in Aunt Chiladas, Reilley's Grill & Bar and Crazy Crab, Brendan began developing restaurant concepts alongside his siblings, including The Boardroom and Carolina Crab Company. A defining milestone came with his vision to revitalize a historic waterfront property through a partnership with the Simmons family, creating Fishcamp on Broad Creek. Its success helped lay the foundation for a growing network of family members, longtime colleagues, and business partners who would go on to develop Fishcamp on 11th Street, acquire Old Oyster Factory, and establish Benny's Coastal Kitchen through a partnership with the Hudson family.
Brendan was known for his exceptional work ethic, keen business instincts, and ability to bring ideas to life. He valued honesty, spoke with conviction, and never avoided a difficult conversation when one was warranted. Those who knew him appreciated his candor, quick wit, and often sarcastic sense of humor. Behind his strong personality was a softer side that not everyone had the opportunity to see. Brendan had a generous heart and quietly helped those in need, never seeking recognition or expecting anything in return. He believed in helping others simply because it was the right thing to do.
Outside of work, Brendan loved the game of golf, was an avid pickleball player, and enjoyed boating, CrossFit, and fine dining. He had a particular appreciation for great food and the people behind it, often researching chefs and restaurants before visiting them.
Above all, Brendan was devoted to his children. As a father, he was patient, supportive, and understanding, encouraging independence while remaining a steady source of guidance throughout their lives. Brendan was a dedicated and loving partner, a cherished brother, and a wonderful son whose love, loyalty, and kindness touched the lives of those closest to him.
Brendan faced his battle with cancer with extraordinary courage, strength, and unwavering determination. He left no stone unturned in his relentless pursuit to overcome this disease, never losing his fighting spirit or his will to live. Though his journey ultimately came to an end, cancer never defeated the strength of his spirit, the depth of his faith, or the love he had for those around him. He fought with everything he had, and his courage will forever be an inspiration to all who knew and loved him.
Brendan is survived by his fiancée, Caroline Hamburg; his children, Brendan Reilley Jr., Taylor Reilley, Madison Reilley, and Aubrey Reilley; his mother, Diane Reilley; and his six siblings, Keith Reilley, Erin Booth, Jeff Reilley, Catherine Fox, Thomas Reilley, and Jenna Flynn, along with his extended family and many friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Thomas David Reilley Jr.
Visitation will be held Sunday, November 1, 2026, at Island Funeral Home on Hilton Head Island, from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday, November 2, at 1:00 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Six Oaks Cemetery. A celebration of Brendan's life will take place afterward at Benny's Coastal Kitchen, beginning at approximately 3:30 p.m.
