David Russell Robinson

Sep 22, 1932 — Sep 24, 2025

David Russell Robinson, age 93, passed into the arms of the Lord on September 24, 2025. He was born on September 22,1932, to Lillian (Russell) Robinson and Dr. Boyd Edwin Robinson.

David attended Western Reserve Academy in Hudson, Ohio. He often said, “the most important chapter in my education and growth to manhood, was the 4 years I spent there.”  He then went to Denison University in Granville, Ohio. While he was a student there, he was a member of the Kappa Sigma Fraternity. David and a group of students were proud to form the University’s first varsity soccer team. He graduated in 1955.

Shortly after University he married Sharon Pinch and settled in Chagrin Falls and then Gates Mills, Ohio.  He then began his tour in the military. He was the maintenance officer for a squadron of B-47’s in The Strategic Air Command during the early years of the Cold War. He said this experience was when “I really grew up.”  After the military, he began a successful and enjoyable career in advertising sales. He spent most of those years with Penton Publishing Company in Cleveland Ohio. He finished his work as the publisher of Foundry Magazine.

After his wife’s death, he met and married Sherry Chandler of Cleveland and San Diego, California. They settled in Waite Hill, Ohio. During their 32 years of marriage, they travelled the world together, walking the Great Wall China, helicoptered onto a glacier in New Zealand, and walked through Tiananmen square one year to the day after the massacre there, among many other exciting adventures.

David was a devoted member and avid golfer at the Kirtland Country Club in Willoughby, Ohio. He was thrilled with his hole-in-one on the third hole! What he genuinely enjoyed were his luncheons with the Kirtland CC Golf Legends – of which, he was one. He spent many hours with them solving the problems of the world. He always said, “I never had a bad day at Kirtland.”  David loved to read, especially books by Mickey Spillane. If asked, he could quote passages verbatim mesmerizing his friends. David was quite an aficionado of jazz. He would listen to Dave Brubeck one of his favorites, for hours. He was the proud owner of one hundred 33 1/3 albums by many of the great jazz musicians.

In 2012, David and Sherry purchased a home in Moss Creek on Hilton Head Island in South Carolina. They have spent many happy years there playing golf, spending time with friends and spoiling their sweet dog, Annie.

David always said he was blessed with perfect health throughout his life. He had a great sense of humor and when asked how old he was, he replied, “I can’t count that high.”

David is survived by his wife, Sherry Robinson; his daughter Laura (Robinson) Mock by his first marriage; his son-in-law, Robert Mock and grandson, Ryan Mock (2016 WRA graduate) of Newbury, Ohio; and his sister, Susan Spohn of Minneapolis, Minnesota. David is preceded in death by his brother-in-law, David Spohn.

David will be buried in a private ceremony in Waite Hill, Ohio.

A celebration of life will be held at Kirtland Country Club in the spring of 2026. The date will be forthcoming.
