Emma Jane Bobbitt

 Emma Jane Bobbitt, known to all as Jane, died peacefully on August 20, 2026. She was born on February 9, 1936, in Jacksonville, Florida, the daughter of Mae and Harold McKee. She graduated from Greenville High School in South Carolina.

Jane attended Mars Hill College, where she met her future husband, Al Bobbitt. They married in 1956 and began their life together in married housing at Furman University, from which Al graduated that same year.

In partnership with Al, whose career brought frequent promotions and moves, Jane built a home for her family in community after community — across the Southeast, in Chicago, and in Connecticut. Wherever they landed, she and Al formed lasting friendships, several of which endured, through letters and visits, until her death.

Jane loved playing tennis, doing needlework, and spending time with her children, grandchildren, and friends. She loved to cook, and had the rare gift of bringing people together around a table — a talent she shared generously with family and friends for decades. She was especially proud of her years working as a master house chef during the Masters golf tournament. She and Al shared a deep love of the beach: while living in New Canaan, Connecticut, they kept a summer home in Chatham, Massachusetts, for many years before settling permanently on Hilton Head Island in 1980.

Holidays, Family Beach Weeks, birthdays, graduations, weddings — Jane treasured them all, and filled album after album with photographs of the family gathered together.

Jane was predeceased by her husband, Al, in 2020, and her son, Albert Scott Bobbitt, in 1999. She is survived by her three children, Cindy, David (his wife, Diana), and Lynn (her husband, Rick Mihevc); her four grandchildren, Tim Bobbitt (his wife, Amy), Emma Mihevc Edwards (her husband, Ryan), Julia Bobbitt Platt (her husband, Matt), and Jackson Mihevc (his wife, Meg); and her great-grandsons, Grady Thomas Bobbitt and his brother Mason James Bobbitt, sons of Tim and Amy, along with her newest great-granddaughter, Maeve Eleanor Mihevc, daughter of Jackson and Meg.

Jane's family is deeply grateful to the staff of The Fraser Health Care Center for their kindness and devoted care in the final weeks of her life, and to the many friends she made during her five years at The Seabrook of Hilton Head.

In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Seabrook of Hilton Head, dedicated to the Fraser Health Center.

 A celebration of life will take place in the fall.
