Francis (Frank) Arthur Thistle died peacefully on the afternoon of November 13, 2025, with family by his side on Hilton Head Island, SC, his beloved home for the past 37 years. He was 88 years old.
Frank was born on July 14, 1937, to parents Francis Clement Thistle and Helen Marie Kimball in Boston, MA. He spent his childhood in the Jamaica Plain section of Boston. He shared fond memories as a young boy working as a shoe shiner in the popular but now gone Doyle’s Pub. Frank was the oldest of 3 sons, John (Jack, now deceased) and Ken. He quit school in his junior year of high school and entered the Navy at age 17 in September 1954 to help support his mother and young brothers after his father died when Frank was 14 years old. When in the Navy, Frank was stationed in Key West, Florida. He met his wife Patricia while serving in the Navy at a dance at the YMCA in Baltimore, MD. Discharged June 1958.
Frank is survived by his wife Pat of 68 years; his daughters Karen Davis, Susan Thistle (Marchioni), Deborah Koczwara, and Linda Thistle; 7 grandchildren Elizabeth, Cathryn, Kelsey, Jessica, Michael, Sarah & Stasiu; and 2 great-grandchildren Blair and Sophia.
Upon completion of his military service, Frank was hired by Raytheon. He enrolled at Northeastern University and completed his GED and earned a bachelor’s degree in business management after eight years of night school.
Frank enjoyed traveling with his wife, reading, walking, the beach. He is remembered by family as a man with strong work ethics and a practical philosophy on life.
A small visitation gathering will take place on Monday, November 24th from 10-11AM at the chapel at The Seabrook, 300 Woodhaven Drive, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926 and will be followed by a ceremony and burial service at 1:00PM at the National Cemetery of Beaufort of Veterans, 1601 Boundary Street, Beaufort, SC 29902. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in memory of Frank to Crescent Hospice, 10 Buckingham Plantation Drive, Bluffton, SC 29910.
