Guy Thomas Baij

October 11, 1937 — May 11, 2026

We are deeply saddened by the passing of our friend and much-loved family member Guy Thomas Baij on Monday May 11th, also known to us as Tom.

Tom was born in Munising, in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan on October 11, 1937. He called himself a Yooper and shared the strong work ethic, independent spirit, and peculiar sense of humor of those born in that area.

Tom came to Hilton Head in the late 1970’s where he met his wife Margaret, who he called the love of his life. They were married for 47 years. Tom settled easily into the island culture. A pharmacist by profession, he became a well-known face in the Hilton Head community. He loved all things golf and followed the sport religiously throughout his life. He and Margaret had a strong love of animals and shared their home with many well-loved pets during their years together.

Tom was known for his ability to spin a good story, for his wit and his humor, and for bringing laughter wherever he went. We will remember Tom as an honest man, a devoted husband, and a loyal friend.

We will miss his presence in our lives.

He is survived by his current wife Margaret, his brother-in-law and his wife John and Mery Santana, his niece and her spouse Gabrielle and Aaron Donovan, his nephew and his spouse Derek and Sandy Santana, and by their children who all loved Uncle Tom!

He is also survived by his sister and her husband, Betty and Dale Demarest, and by their children Guy D. Perry, Elizabeth L. Hering, Inger K. Ormsby, and by their spouses and children.

And by his children from a former marriage, Victor Dean Baij, Tracy Baij, and Cindy Baij.

Visitation will be held at The Island Funeral Home on Friday, May 22, 2026, from 4-6pm with Deacon Anthony opening the visitation with a few remarks and reflections promptly at 4:00pm.
