May 6, 1936 — Sep 14, 2026
James Fulton Crumpler Jr., M.D., of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, passed away on September 14, 2026, at age 90.
Born on May 6, 1936, in Clinton, North Carolina, Jim was the son of the late Dr. James Fulton Crumpler Sr. and Mary Ellis Crumpler.
He grew up in Rocky Mount, North Carolina, where he became active in the Boy Scouts of America and earned the rank of Eagle Scout in 1951. He spent many summers at Camp Sea Gull, first as a camper and later as a counselor. There, he learned to sail and developed a lifelong passion for boating and sailing.
Jim graduated from Rocky Mount Senior High School in 1954, the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1958, and the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in 1964.
After medical school, he served as a surgeon and captain in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, he established an ear, nose, and throat practice in Rocky Mount.
Jim was married to the former Stephanie Ann Williams of Winston-Salem, and they raised their children in Rocky Mount. The couple later divorced, and Jim relocated to Atlantic Beach, Florida where he enjoyed extensive travel during retirement. His final years were spent in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
He is survived by his sister, children, and grandchildren.
A private burial service will be held at Pineview Cemetery in Rocky Mount.
