Judith M. Thomas

Judith “Judy” M. Thomas died on June 9, 2026, on Hilton Head Island, SC. She was 86.

Judy was born on November 6, 1939, in Columbia, PA, to her parents, Gardiner and Elizabeth Mummaw. She grew up in Lancaster County, where she lived until her final six months, which she spent with her beloved daughter, Beth, on Hilton Head Island, SC.

A graduate of Columbia High School Class of 1957, Judy spent much of her working career in higher education. She served as the Assistant to the Director of the Steinman College Center at Franklin & Marshall College, and later retired as the Assistant to the Executive Dean, CEO of HACC’s Lancaster Campus in 2008.

Known for her impeccable style and keen attention to detail, Judy worked tirelessly to improve life for both students and faculty; several of her recommendations remain in practice today.

Judy was a brave warrior who fought multiple illnesses over twenty-six years. She cherished her time with her daughter, Beth, who was the love of her life. Judy had a deep love for all animals, especially her cherished cats, who were constant companions throughout her life.

Judith is survived by her daughter, Elizabeth A. Thomas, of Hilton Head Island, SC as well as many dear friends in Lancaster and York, PA.

 A memorial service will be planned for the Fall in Lancaster, PA.
