Linda "Dolly" Elizabeth Shewmaker

June 6, 1943 — May 8, 2026

Linda was born in Monroe, Louisiana, but considered herself a lifelong Texan, spending the majority of her life in and around the Dallas area. Parts of her childhood were spent living abroad, including three years in Venezuela, two years in Colombia, and three years in Iran. She attended high school at Ashley Hall in Charleston, SC, graduating in 1961, and college at the University of Texas, graduating in 1965.

She had a career as a flight attendant with Braniff Airlines that spanned almost twenty years that added to her world travels. In that time, she also received a degree in Aeronautics.

Linda loved football and was a devoted Dallas Cowboys fan. She followed her own alma mater and later the Clemson Tigers.

After the death of her father, Allen, in 2012, and her mother, Dorothy, in 2015, Linda returned to South Carolina and moved to Village Cove on Hilton Head. The fondness between the staff and herself was mutual and constant in the years she spent there.

Lovingly known as “Dolly” by family members as a nickname given to her by her father when she was a baby, Linda is remembered affectionately by her two aunts, Elaine and Sandra, and survived by her brother, Larry, sister-in-law, Marie, and nieces, Danielle and Caroline. And no doubt, her favorite family dog, Buster, was waiting there to greet her on the other side of the rainbow bridge.
