Manfred "Fred" Schramm

Fred Schramm died after a hard-fought battle with cancer surrounded by family and loved ones. He joins his wife, Nancy, parents Katharina and Balthasar, Aunt Margaret Bender and siblings Ludwig, Gretel and Alfred in eternal peace. Fred is survived by children Maureen Schramm-Martinez and Michael Schramm, brother Anton “Tony” Schramm and his wife Ellie, sister Brigitte Koch, son-in-law Jose Martinez, daughter-in-law Milissa Schramm, significant other Mollie Kirchner and seven grandchildren, Stephanie, Caitlin, Amanda, Ricky, Che, Jack and Jesse. Fred also had many beloved family members, friends and neighbors in Hilton Head, SC and Westchester County, NY. Born in Marktleugast, Germany, Fred trained to become a bricklayer/stone mason. He came to the United States at 17 years-old to join family members in New Rochelle, NY including his brother Tony, where they would operate a very successful construction business, A&M Schramm Inc., for over 30 years. Always very civic-minded, Fred voluntarily enlisted in the United States Army and served from 1960-62 at Ft. Benning, Georgia where he had specialties in survival, first aid and emergency medical care and received accommodations for rifle marksmanship. In addition, while serving in the Army he was a highly valued player of his company’s soccer team and enjoyed playing in matches all over the United States. Fred was a proud man who strove to do his best in all things. This included his work, home, hobbies (i.e., landscaping/gardening), faith and relationships. Some of his passions and most enjoyable experiences were singing with the St. John & Paul church choir and square dancing with the Hilton Head Ocean Waves with Nancy. He was also an excellent tennis player, and loved playing with his beloved Hilton Head teammates. Fred was kind, generous, smart, friendly and fun, which made him a very easy person to love. He was also resilient, competitive, strong and brave. He loved his life very much, and he will be sorely missed by all. Rest in peace, our dear Fred.
