Dorothy Magda Steelman, 91, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, formerly of Wall, New Jersey, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, July 26, 2026.

Born in Stamford, Connecticut, Dorothy was the daughter of the late Samuel A. Magda and Susan Lee Magda. She graduated from Parsons School of Design in New York City and enjoyed a distinguished career creating textile designs for major home furnishings companies throughout the United States, the United Kingdom, and Europe.

Following her retirement, Dorothy and her beloved husband, the late Raymond A. Steelman, moved to Hilton Head Island in 1991, where she embraced the area's vibrant arts community. A gifted artist, she was an active member of the Art League of Hilton Head, the Society of Bluffton Artists, the Beaufort Art Association, and the South Carolina Watercolor Society. She also served as president of the Hilton Head Plantation Artists Association, generously sharing her talent and passion for art with others.

Dorothy is survived by her loving daughter, Susan Speir of Summerville, South Carolina; her son, Christopher Steelman and Julie, of Utah; her granddaughters, Alyssa Parker and her husband, Sam, and Kristen Overcash and her husband, John; and seven cherished great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Samuel A. and Susan Lee Magda; her husband, Raymond A. Steelman; and her son-in-law, Brant D. Speir. 

Dorothy will be remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. Her creativity, kindness, and love for her family and the arts touched the lives of many and will be deeply missed.

A mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 am on Friday August 7, 2026 at St. Francis By the Sea Catholic Church.
