Samuel "Sam" William Einfeldt

Mar 18, 1944 — Sep 2, 2026

Samuel “Sam” William Einfeldt passed away peacefully on September 2, 2026, on Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, a place he came to love deeply and proudly called his second home.

Sam lived a full and wonderful life. A brilliant telecommunications specialist, avid skeet shooter and fisherman, lifelong reader, and consummate problem solver. He could build or fix just about anything and his is philosophy was simple: “Measure twice, cut once.”

His talents and willingness to lend a hand extended far beyond his own projects. Sam proudly served on the board of his community for more than a dozen years and could often be found alongside his neighbors building, fixing, or improving something on the property. He took great pride in helping make his community a better place and valued the friendships that came from working together.

Sam began his career with IBM and spent decades in the telecommunications industry, including working with organizations such as British Telecom, before moving into the private sector. In retirement, he embraced island life and could often be found on his daily 20-mile bike ride around Hilton Head, greeting everyone he encountered.

With his contagious grin, sharp wit, and ridiculously funny sense of humor, Sam had a rare ability to make people smile, laugh, and feel welcomed and remembered. He genuinely enjoyed life and the people who filled it, and everyone who knew him experienced more joy in his presence. Ask Sam how he was doing, and his answer was always the same: “Midway between excellent and outstanding.”

Sam was born in Erie, Pennsylvania, and earned his bachelor’s degree in economics from Gannon University in Erie. While his professional accomplishments were many, his greatest legacy was the love he shared with his family and friends.

Sam is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 63 years, Judy; his children, Erica and Tighe Einfeldt; his daughter-in-law Yvette and his three cherished grandchildren, Julia, Gavin, and Samantha Einfeldt. He leaves behind a lifetime of memories, laughter, stories, and love.

A Mass in Sam’s memory will be held at St. Francis by the Sea, 45 Beach City Road, Hilton Head Island, SC 29926, on Friday, September 25, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of remembering Sam with sadness, his family hopes those who knew him will remember his smile, share a laugh, tell a good story, and live life somewhere between excellent and outstanding
