Shane Michael McKenzie
Apr 22, 1970 — Aug 4, 2026
Shane Michael McKenzie, 56, of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina, passed away unexpectedly on August 4, 2026. Born in Muncie, Indiana, on April 22, 1970, Shane brought warmth, quick wit, and a laid-back charm to everyone who was fortunate enough to know him.
A standout athlete in his youth, Shane attended Cowan High School, where he excelled on both the basketball court and the track, before continuing his education at Ball State University. His sharp mind and strong leadership led to a successful career in accounting and financial management, culminating in his recent role as the Director of Finance at the Perry Lane Hotel in Savannah, Georgia.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Shane was a computer whiz, the ultimate family tech support, and an avid gamer. A loyal Pittsburgh Pirates and Steelers fan since childhood, he loved fantasy football and old-school hip-hop. True to his athletic roots, he had recently picked-up pickleball and played regularly with longtime friends. Shane made friends easily, whether they were lifelong companions in person or buddies he only knew through a computer screen. Above all, he loved and cherished his family. He was amazingly thoughtful and generous and spoiled his nieces and nephews endlessly.
Shane was a beloved son to Karen and Lowell Drill of Hilton Head Island, SC, and Michael and Wanda McKenzie of Salem, SC. Shane is survived by his parents as well as his three devoted sisters, their spouses and children: Colleen McKenzie Ryan (Sean), Shannon McKenzie (Charley), and Dana (Drill) Joye (Jonathan). He will always be remembered as the one-of-a-kind, cherished fun-uncle by his nephews Quinn, Ki, Breckin, and Boden, and his nieces McKenzie and Ashlynn.
Shane was a wonderful uncle, an even better brother, and a great son. His kindness, humor, and easygoing presence left an indelible mark on our hearts, and he will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life to honor Shane will be held on Sunday, August 30th, 2026, from 1pm to 3pm at the Boardroom, 7 Greenwood Drive, Hilton Head Island. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers please donate to the Boy’s and Girl’s Club of Hilton Head Island.
