Stanley Leavitt

April 24, 1930 — June 7, 2026

Stanley Leavitt, aged 96, passed away peacefully on June 7th, 2026, at his residence in the Broad Creek Care Center of Hilton Head Island, South Carolina. He was born April 24th, 1930, in Southampton, NY on Long Island to Theodore and Mollie Leavitt and was raised in Riverhead, NY.

Stanley was a graduate of Syracuse University and worked for many years as a design engineer in the aerospace industry. He was awarded a number of patents in the fields of jet and rocket propulsion and power generation, and as he liked to joke with people, "he was indeed a rocket scientist." In subsequent years, Stanley leveraged his expertise in engineering performing home inspections and providing disaster assessments as a FEMA Site Inspector.

He was endlessly curious about how things worked and once he understood them, set about indulging his interests. This led him to hobbies in flying, auto restoration, woodworking, engine repair, gunsmithing, ship model building and even blacksmithing.

After he retired to Hilton Head several decades ago from Canton, CT, Stanley became an accomplished and prolific artist. His paintings have been shown in a number of local art galleries and businesses in Hilton Head and Bluffton.

He is survived by his sisters Judith Leavitt and Barbara Jacobs, sons Jeffrey and Timothy Leavitt, daughter Lisa Leavitt, daughters-in-law Karyn Leavitt and Robin Leavitt, son-in-law Derek Jamison, stepdaughter Cheryl Ann LeBlanc and husband Art LeBlanc, stepdaughter Nina Jo Santini and wife Kim Santini, and grandchildren Mordecai Leavitt and Theresa Rountree. He is preceded in death by his wife Barbara "Bobbi" Leavitt and his son Richard Leavitt.
