Robert Joseph Mccormish

April 28, 1932 — February 17, 2025

Kind, Gentle, Loving, and Wise

Robert Joseph McCormish, lovingly known as Bob, passed away peacefully on February 17, 2025, at the age of 92 in Costa Mesa, California.

Born on April 28, 1932, in Beaver, Pennsylvania, Bob was the beloved son of William and Leta McCormish. He proudly served four years in the U.S. Navy before pursuing his passion for mathematics at the University of Pittsburgh. He later continued his studies at UCLA, where he earned his master’s degree, exemplifying his commitment to both education and service.

Bob married Sandra Wolf in 1957 and moved to California to embark on his long career in the aerospace industry as a computer programmer at McDonnell Douglas. He was known above all for his deep love and involvement as a husband, father, and grandfather. For many years he coached summer baseball teams for his sons and dozens of other Costa Mesa youth in the 60’s and 70’s when the town was in its formative stages. His warmth, wisdom, and unwavering support shaped the lives of those around him.

He is survived by his loving wife, Sandy; his children, Rob, Rick, and Karen; and his five grandchildren, AJ, Josh, Alex, Jack, and Kelly. He is also survived by his sister Joanne and brother Dale. Bob was preceded in death by his parents and siblings, Doris, Ruth, Don, and Bill.

A man of deep faith, Bob found peace in knowing he was going home to God. He was a devoted husband to Sandy, with whom he shared an inseparable bond. Near the end, Bob often reassured Sandy that he would be waiting for her, a testament to their enduring connection and unbreakable unity. In honor of his wishes, a joint memorial service will be held at a later time, after Sandy’s passing.

Bob’s kindness, wisdom, and love will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Though he is deeply missed, we find comfort in knowing he is at peace, waiting with open arms for his beloved Sandy.
