Michael Allen Hiskey, 54, of Colorado Springs, passed away on the morning of January 19, 2017 surrounded by his family and friends. He was born in Fort Collins, Colorado. His life was a balance of chemical equations, a wonderful sense of humor, and love for nature. Chemistry was Mike's passion. He received his BS in Chemistry from the University of Colorado- Colorado Springs in 1985, and his Ph.D. in explosive Chemistry from New Mexico Tech in 1990. After post-doctoral appointments at Los Alamos and The University of Nebraska, Mike worked as an explosive chemist at Los Alamos National Laboratories for 17 years. In 2000 Mike formed a company with friend Darren Naud, Ph.D. inventing smokeless fireworks that light up everything from the Super Bowl to Queen Elizabeth's Diamond Jubilee. He was one of the most brilliant minds in the chemistry world. Mike is survived by his mother, Carolanne Allen, his brother Steven (Kimberly) Hiskey , nephew Jason (Melanie) Hiskey, niece Marissa Hiskey and his beloved extended family.In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Mike's honor to The University of Colorado, Colorado Springs Scholarship Fund.
