William Eugene Burrows

Jul 29, 1943 — Sep 10, 2026

Bill Burrows, 83, passed away on September 10, 2026.

Born July 29, 1943, in Illinois, Bill grew up in Texas and Indiana. After graduating from Pike High School and Butler University, he earned a Master of Science in Information Science from the Georgia Institute of Technology. At Butler, Bill met Rita Anweiler, sister of his college roommate, Phil. Bill and Rita married on August 29, 1965, and were anchors for each other for 61 years.

Bill served 26 years in the Air Force, retiring as a Colonel in 1992. He later held leadership positions at USAA and retired as Chief Information Officer of Educational Employees Credit Union (EECU).

Outside of work, Bill enjoyed flea markets, refinishing antique finds, and hiking with family and friends. When his daughters were young, Saturdays meant breakfast out followed by trips to hardware stores—“putzing around” with Dad. In later years, he loved attending family athletic events and entertaining his grandchildren and great-grandchildren with Mo Willems’ Pigeon books.

Underlying it all, Bill was a man of deep Christian faith. He served his Lord as a teacher, mentor, and willing servant, and others often sought him out for his wisdom and godly advice. He loved studying the Bible, asking God to speak to him through His Word so he might know Him better. Bill wanted not simply to read Scripture, but to understand it, live it, and share what he learned. That passion led to a lifetime of teaching Sunday School classes and home Bible studies. Bill was a faithful follower of Christ. One evening over dinner with friends, he saw another way to serve. He created and developed a website for his Overcomers class, providing a lasting way for members to connect with one another.

Bill is survived by his wife, Rita; daughters, Kimberly Bowen (Daniel) and Susan Bush (Beau); grandchildren, Riley Bush (Emily), Chloe Bush, Allison Bowen, Emma Bowen, Jake Bowen, and Aubrey Bowen; and great-grandchildren, Elliot Bush, Beau Bush, and Scottie-Mae Bush.
