Born February 8, 1950, James Manuel Chilton was a loving son, brother, father, and grandfather who believed life was far too short to take too seriously. He lived his life with a constant sense of wonder and possessed a wildly youthful spirit and an extraordinary ability to find joy. He never stopped playing, laughing, and embracing life. He believed life was meant to be lived, laughed through, and enjoyed—and he carried that spirit and unmistakable zest for life with him until the very end.

Above all, Jim loved the Lord. His faith was central to who he was, and he lived with the hope and assurance that his earthly journey was not the end. On July 25, 2026, Jim peacefully went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by his family. He leaves behind 2 children, Hilary and Nicholas; 6 grandchildren: Josh, Jared, Stella, Isaiah, Caleb, and Jesse; his sister, Sandi; and his mother, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his father, James, and his oldest son, Michael.

Though our hearts are heavy, we find comfort knowing our dad is exactly where he always hoped to be—home with the Lord. We imagine him walking through those pearly gates with that mischievous grin, ready to reunite with his loved ones, and find out what kind of trouble he can get into in Heaven. Until we meet again, we will carry his laughter in our hearts, cherish the memories he gave us, and love him always. His earthly work is finished, but his greatest adventure has just begun.
