Joan Elizabeth Seger

Joan Elizabeth Seger, age 86, died August 1, 2026 of heart failure.

Joan was born 02-06-1940 in La Junta, CO to Ernest and Lilly (Esch) Gillis. Both parents are deceased. She was one of 7 children in a blended family. Her siblings Jerry, Gene, John, Joy (married name, Mesdag) and Jesse are all deceased. She has one brother, Jim, still living.

Shortly after her birth, she and her family moved to the Mio/Fairview, Michigan area, and then the entire family moved back to CO when she was eleven, in 1951.

She married Edward Seger in 1960, who preceded her in death in 2010. She had two children, Bradley and Elizabeth, who are still living. And, in the 1980s, she generously provided a home for her teenage niece, Grace Seger (married name, Obay).

She attended Peyton School where she was Valedictorian of her class in 1958.

She attended PPCC for one year in 1983-1984 and got great grades while studying computer programming.

She loved to garden and was a voracious reader. She loved animals and took in many strays over the years.

She cared more for her family and friends than she did herself.

She was a Christian, and taught Bible School each summer when her kids were growing up.

Those who knew her and loved her will miss her smile and her way with words.
