John David Baker

May 11, 1949 — May 4, 2026

John “David” Baker, 76, passed away on May 4, 2026, under the care of Pikes Peak Hospice in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was surrounded by loved ones. David was born on May 11, 1949 to Johnny and Beryl Baker of Hanover, Colorado. David graduated Hanover High School and was drafted into the Marines. He served a tour in Viet Nam. After serving, he went on to work construction and eventually a heavy equipment operator which he worked most of his life. As he worked for money, his love of ranching never stopped. He was passionate about taking care of his farm animals. As he dated his ex-wife Vickie White for 9 years, he helped raise her three children. You could always find David socializing with his numerous cousins, other family, and friends at reunions, auctions, and any other event. Even in high school he would get into good natured high jinks with his cousins and friends going to dances and other social functions. David loved fishing, bull riding, ranching, socializing, watching Star Trek on TV and Star Wars on the big screen. David was known for his generosity. He was involved with Care and Share Food Bank and Candlelighters of Southern Colorado. He loved giving generously to children whether it be with toys or his time teaching them skills to help them in the world.

David is survived by his sisters Rita Campbell and Vivian Baker, both of Ellicott, Colorado; his stepdaughters, Cynthia Jenkins of Las Vegas, Nevada; Rebecca and her husband, Todd Crockett of Middleburg, Florida; his niece Paula and her husband Scott Monroe of Ellicott, Colorado; and his nephews Jason Baker of Pueblo, Colorado; Wesley and his wife Nazanin Campbell of Leesburg, Virginia; his 4 great nephews and numerous cousins and friends.

David was preceded in death by his parents, his stepson, Robert White, and his brother-in-law, Larry Campbell.

David will be missed by all that knew him and loved him. We will carry fond memories of his generosity, high jinks, and love for animals in our hearts.

Services will be held at Hanover Community Church, 17480 S Peyton Hwy, Colorado Springs, CO 80928 on May 20, 2026.
