In Loving Memory of Karleen Jeanette Cotton

April 29, 1942 – October 11, 2026

Karleen Jeanette Cotton, a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and nanna, completed her baptismal journey on October 11, 2026, at the age of 84. She will be remembered for her kind heart, her caring friendship, and the beautiful smile that she so freely shared with those around her.

Born in Denver, Colorado, on April 29, 1942, Karleen lived in several places throughout her life, including Aurora, Illinois; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Mesa, Arizona; and Kitchener, Ontario, Canada. Each place became part of her life's story, but her time in Canada held a particularly special place in her heart. She treasured the memories she made there and maintained friendships with many of the people she met along the way.

Karleen discovered her true calling as the Payroll Coordinator at Colorado College, where she dedicated many years of service before retiring in 2003. Her commitment to serving others continued in her later professional life as a church administrator at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Our Saviors Lutheran Church and Grace Lutheran Church. She remained in that role until her final retirement in August 2025, at the age of 83. Through her work and her relationships, Karleen left a lasting impression on those whose lives she touched.

Above all, Karleen cherished her family. She was a devoted mother, a proud grandmother, and a loving nanna to her great-grandchildren. She was also a caring friend to many, sharing warmth, kindness, and a smile that will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew her.

Karleen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Perry E. Cotton; her son, Michael A. Cotton; and her great-granddaughter, Naomi Cotton.

She is survived by her daughter, Margaret A. Ainsworth (Jacob); her son, Richard P. Cotton; and her grandchildren: Alexander Ainsworth (Saige); Zacary Cotton (Lauren); Erica Ainsworth (Randy Berg); Brenna Cotton (Alex Bergen); and Ian Cotton.

She also leaves behind her cherished great-grandchildren: Olivia Ainsworth, Bishop Ainsworth, Michael E. Cotton, Zacary A. Cotton, Cheri Cotton, Peter Cotton, and Rowan Bergan.

Karleen's life was a testament to the importance of family, friendship, dedication, and love. Though she will be deeply missed, the memories she created, the relationships she nurtured, and the love she gave will continue to live on through the generations of her family and the many friends whose lives she brightened.

May she rest in the peace and loving embrace of God, reunited with those who went before her. May the promise of eternal life bring comfort to all who mourn her passing, and may her beautiful smile remain a treasured memory in the hearts of those who loved her.
