Walter Perry Ragains

Apr 8, 1953 — Sep 26, 2026

Walter Perry Ragains, 73, died on September 26, 2026, in Ellicott, Colorado.

Born on April 8, 1953, Walter Ragains built a life rooted in work, family, and community. He attended Miami Yoder school, and continued his education at Otero Junior College. Later in life, he took classes in AutoCad drafting, at Pikes Peak Community College. His working life reflected both dedication and versatility. A lifelong farmer and rancher, he also worked for Superstein steel, later named Reliance Metal Company, from 1979 until 2018. He drove trucks, delivering steel and operated a plasma table, drafting metal pieces, using the AutoCad program. He retired at the age of 65. After leaving Reliance Metal, he continued serving his community, by driving a bus for Miami Yoder school until 2026.

Walter grew up attending Rush United Methodist Church. He later became a member of Kendrick Bible Church, with his wife Sharon.

He was preceded in death by his wife Sharon Ragains; his father Albert Ragains; his father-in-law Les Davis; and his brother-in-law, Ron Davis. He is survived by his mother, Bettie Ragains; his aunt Kathy Cooper; his daughters, Lesley (Andy) Lopez and Myranda (Allen) Morris; his son Brandon (Sandra) Ragains; his sister Alvera (Brian) Zenisek; his mother-in-law, Betty Davis; his brother-in-law Jerry Davis; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.

Walter's life was marked by steady commitment in the many roles he held. Farming and ranching remained a constant part of his life and alongside that lifelong work he spent nearly four decades in the steel industry. His years at Superstein and Reliance Metal, or continuing on the road after retirement, he devoted himself to hard work and the tasks before him.

He also found enjoyment in pursuits that connected him to the outdoors and to others. He enjoyed roping, hunting, fishing, and country western dancing. These interests were a meaningful part of his life and brought him together with many friends and family.

Those who knew Walter remember a man that was kind, wise, loving, generous, and hardworking, and as someone who never knew a stranger. That remembrance speaks volumes in the way he moved through the world and to the impression he left on family, friends, and everyone who crossed his path. He will be remembered not only for the work he did, but also for the enduring presence, guidance, and generosity, in the lives around him.

A service will be held on October 24, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Living Word Community Church in Calhan, Colorado.

Walter Perry Ragains will be remembered for the steady life he built and the many people who shared it.
