Trevor Ruel Downey
Jan 3, 1987 — Oct 11, 2026
In Loving Memory of Trevor Ruel Downey
January 3, 1987 – October 11, 2026
Trevor Ruel Downey, 39, passed peacefully into the arms of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on October 11, 2026, at his parents' home in Midvale, Idaho, following a courageous two-year battle with cancer.
Born in Ontario, Oregon, Trevor spent his early childhood in Fruitland and Council, Idaho, before moving with his family to Rockaway Beach, Oregon, in 1994. He graduated from Neah-Kah-Nie High School in 2005. Growing up on the Oregon Coast nurtured his lifelong love of the outdoors. Whether surfing, freediving, hiking through the mountains, or exploring in his truck or on his motorcycle, Trevor found joy and adventure in God's creation. As a young man, he also volunteered for three years as a counselor at Tillamook County Outdoor School, where he was affectionately known as “Ace.”
Trevor lived a life marked by service to others. He served in the United States Army, including a deployment to Afghanistan, followed by service in the Oregon National Guard. He later served with Nehalem Bay Fire & Rescue and fought wildland fires with the Oregon Department of Forestry. His commitment to protecting and serving others led him into law enforcement in Idaho, first as a deputy with the Custer County Sheriff's Office. Trevor continued his career with Cassia County Sheriff's Office as a patrol deputy, served on the SWAT Team, was later selected as part of the Narcotics Task Force, and promoted to Detective Corporal.
On October 27, 2024, Trevor married Theresa Marshall. Family was especially important to Trevor. A beloved son, brother, grandson, nephew, uncle, and friend, he was affectionately known as “Uncle Dooz” to his nieces and nephews. He will be remembered for his quiet strength, kindness, adventurous spirit, wonderful hugs, and that unmistakable sparkle in his eyes.
Trevor is survived by his wife, Theresa Downey; parents, Charles (Charlie) and Linda Downey of Midvale, Idaho; sisters, Trina Lessor (Eric) of Bay City, Oregon, and Tanya Pinard (Graham) of McCall, Idaho; brother, Travis Downey (Chimene) of Caldwell, Idaho; paternal grandmother, Beverly Jamison of Boise, Idaho; and many beloved nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents Marilyn Carter (Carl), Ruel Parker (Edith), Frank and Laura Downey, Denver Jamison, and Gary Goodman.
Trevor's faith in Jesus Christ remained steadfast, and his family finds comfort in knowing he is free from pain and resting in the presence of his Savior.
A beautiful Celebration of Life was held on October 27, 2026, at Grace Community Church in Rupert, Idaho, where family, friends, and fellow officers gathered to honor Trevor and share treasured memories. The Downey family extends heartfelt gratitude to all who supported Trevor throughout his illness, especially the Cassia County Sheriff's Office, its deputies, and members of the Narcotics Task Force for their extraordinary care and friendship.
An additional Oregon Coast Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, November 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at God's Lighthouse in Garibaldi, Oregon. A time of food and fellowship will follow at 1:00 p.m. at Bunker Grille & Event Center, 7300 Alderbrook Road, Tillamook, Oregon. All who knew and loved Trevor are warmly invited to join the family.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to the Cassia County Benevolence Fund in honor of Trevor's dedication to his fellow officers and the community he served.
Donations may be mailed to: Cassia County Sheriff's Office Attn: Benevolent Association 129 East 14th Street Burley, ID 83318
