Bettie Sue Joyner
Aug 15, 1940 — Aug 8, 2026
Bettie “Sue” Joyner, 85, of Elloree, SC, entered her eternal home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on August 8, 2026.
Born on August 15, 1940, to the late Robert H. and Flora E. Wolfe in Wolfe Creek, Virginia, Sue leaves behind a legacy of unwavering faith, love for her family, and a life dedicated to service. Sue married the late Archie Jobra Joyner in 1957, and together they had three sons. She proudly served 24 years in the South Carolina Air National Guard, achieving the rank of Senior Master Sergeant. Her commitment to service extended far beyond her military career. Prior to her illness, she was actively involved in her local community, regularly dedicating her time to working at the local food bank and faithfully serving at her church.
Driven by a deep faith and a desire to help others, Sue founded a life-changing mission project to build a clean water system in Kenya, Africa, which was proudly named after her. Sue had a zeal for life and an infectious smile. Her warmth and uplifting spirit left an indelible mark on all who knew her.
Sue is survived by her sons Mike Joyner (Rhonda) of Chapin, Kevin Joyner (Susan) of Swansea, and Keith Joyner (Tonya) of Greenwood; seven grandchildren: Jason, Eric, Ryan, Steven, Ashlee, Ethan, and Tiffani Joyner; nine great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Sue is also survived by her brother, Robert Wolfe, and a sister, Linda Egan, as well as many other loving extended family members. Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Archie Joyner; parents, Robert H. and Flora E. Wolfe; and siblings, Pat Baxivanos, Wayne Wolfe, and Roger Wolfe.
The family will receive friends during a visitation on Thursday, August 13, 2026, from 3:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home Greenlawn. Funeral services will follow at 4:30 p.m. in the Chapel of the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Sue’s honor to a mission outreach of your choice.
A special thank you to the staff at Calhoun Convalescent Center for their loving care in recent years.
Pallbearers: Jason Joyner, Eric Joyner, Ryan Joyner, Steven Hucks, Ethan Joyner, and Jonathan Crider.
