IN LOVING MEMORY

Booker “Toney” Roddy, Jr., 85, of Columbia, South Carolina, entered the presence of the Lord on Friday, November 28, 2025.  He passed away peacefully at Prisma Health Richland, Columbia, South Carolina, surrounded by cherished family.

Toney was born on May 2, 1940 in Monroe, North Carolina to the late Booker and Sallie (McKinley) Roddy.   Toney is preceded in death by his sisters, Marva Lois (Roddy) McLarty,  Dorothy “Dot” (Roddy) Edwers, and Claude Roddy, Sr. Toney is survived by his beloved and devoted wife, Yong “Lee” Roddy, his daughter, Angel Roddy Posenecker (Eric), son, Tommy Roddy, and a host of sisters-in-law, brother-in-law, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

After graduating from Winchester High School, Toney enlisted in the U.S. Army and served two tours in Germany, two tours in Vietnam, and three tours in Korea. Toney’s commendations include a National Defense Service Medal, a Bronze Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with four Bronze Service Stars, a Vietnam Campaign Medal, an Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, an Army Service Ribbon, an Overseas Service Medal, and a Meritorious Service Medal.  Toney retired after 22 years of service to his country as a respected quartermaster and non-commissioned officer, at the rank of Master Sergeant.

Toney was married to his dear wife, Lee, for 57 years, and was devoted to his family and faith. He enjoyed caring for his vintage cars, watching sports, listening to music from the 40/50s/60s, and spending time with his family picnicking, gardening, and eating ice cream.

A private family viewing will be held at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park on Monday, December 8, 2025 at 10:00 a.m.  Funeral services for friends and family will be at 11:00 a.m. at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park with Reverend Joey Huggins officiating.  Friends and family are also invited to the interment at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shandon Baptist Church, 5250 Forest Drive, Columbia, SC 29206 or to SC Youth Advocate Program, 140 Stoneridge Drive, Suite 350, Columbia, SC 29210.
