Charles Polin, Jr.

Charles “Chuck” Wertz Polin, Jr., 76, of Hopkins, SC, passed away on May 15, 2026.

He was born in Orangeburg, SC, the son of the late Charles Wertz Polin, Sr. and Jean Edwards Blackwood. He proudly served in the U.S. Army for over 20 years, retiring in 1993 as a Sergeant First Class. After his military retirement, he worked for Shakespeare and retired in 2016. In his younger days, he enjoyed playing sports to include football, baseball, and track and field. He was also an avid softball player while in the Army. Chuck loved to fish, golf, and grill for his family and friends. He was most known for his love of country music and the South Carolina Gamecocks.

He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Benita Polin; children, Cora (Allen) Moss and Michael (Tatjana) Ramos; grandchildren, Matthew Moss, Austin Moss, Leilani (Eddie) Garcia, and Breana Moss; 9 great-grandchildren; and siblings, James "Jimmy" Polin, Joseph "Joe" (Sadie) Blackwood, Kimberly "Kim" Bonnette, and Kathy Blackwood. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Frank W. Blackwood, Jr., and grandchildren, Kristy Ramos and Julian Ramos.

The service will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Wednesday, June 10 at 2:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life at Weston Lake Recreation Facility (Shelter #5), 4420 Leesburg Rd., Hopkins, SC 29060.
