Daniel Charles O'Donnell, Sr., 83, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday, July 23, 2026. He was born on January 26, 1943, in Fullerton, Pennsylvania, the son of the late Francis B. O'Donnell, Sr., and the late Jeanette I. O'Donnell. In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his older brother, Francis B. O'Donnell, Jr.
Dan graduated from Central Catholic High School in Allentown, Pennsylvania, in 1960. He proudly served in the United States Marine Corps, joining in December 1960 and completing four years of active service before leaving the Marines in 1964.
Following his military service, Dan began working for Mack Trucking in Allentown, Pennsylvania, a career that eventually brought him and his family to Columbia, South Carolina, in 1996. After retiring from Mack Trucking, Dan continued consulting with the company for a period of time before beginning a new chapter of his life with Richland County Library.
He was an active member of Rehoboth Global Methodist Church and was deeply involved with the Food Pantry, where he generously gave his time and service to help others.
Dan is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Marjorie L. O'Donnell; his son, Daniel C. O'Donnell, Jr. (Celeste); his son, Michael P. O'Donnell (Jennifer); his son, Brian S. O'Donnell (Bobbi); his granddaughters, Haley O'Donnell, Madison C. Reiner (Nicholas), Taylor J. O'Donnell, Kaylee H. Beanard, Jordan J. O'Donnell, Arielle Beanard, Mackenzie O'Donnell, and Brooklyn O’Donnell; his grandsons, Donovan M. O'Donnell, Anthony Beanard, and Alexander J. O'Donnell; his brother, Leo E. O'Donnell; and 4 nephews and 2 nieces.
Dan will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his commitment to serving others, and the many lives he touched throughout his life. His legacy of kindness, faith, service, and love will remain with all who knew him. May he rest in eternal peace.
A memorial service remembering and celebrating his life will be held at Rehoboth Global Methodist Church at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Family visitation will immediately follow the service.
Following the service and visitation, military honors will be rendered in recognition of a life of dedicated service. Inurnment will take place at Fort Jackson at 12:00 noon.
