Donald Richard Mochel

Donald Richard Mochel, aged 97, passed away on September 9, 2026. Born on January 15, 1929, in Hinsdale, Illinois, Don lived a life devoted to service and community.

As a veteran of the US Army who served during both the Korean and Vietnam wars, Don served his country with honor and integrity. After his military career, he became a public servant with the city of Cayce, then moved on to loss prevention for Kmart, and also worked as a courier for various companies. Don was also an active member of the American Legion Post 130 and VFW Post 8738. He was a member of Broadacres Baptist Church in Cayce. Some of his favorite hobbies were record collecting, lapel pin collecting, and playing solitaire.

He is survived by Sarah, his wife of 66 years; his children, Sandra Rivenbark (Ed), Donna Spires (Ken), and Rick Mochel; and his son-in-law, Bill Cothron. He also leaves behind four grandsons, Jim Kelley (Kori), Matthew Spires (Alicia), Mitchel Mochel (Nicole), and Griffin Spires (Meagan); fourteen great-grandchildren, Mikenzy, Abigail, Blakelyn, Augie, Gunner, Ella Grace, Marissa, Ireland, Mason, Emma, Ethan, Kai, Kruz, and Emerson; and his brother, Ralph Mochel of Knoxville, Tennessee. He was predeceased by his daughter Diane Cothron, granddaughter Amanda Bouman, and great-grandson Camden Spires.

Don’s legacy of service and compassion will continue to inspire all who knew him.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Broadacres Baptist Church.

You will always be missed and forever loved.

Visitation for Don will take place Thursday, September 17, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Thompson Funeral Home at Greenlawn Memorial Park. The funeral service will follow at 11:00 AM in the funeral home chapel, with a full service and burial immediately following at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
