Dorothy Byrd

Dorothy Beatrice Byrd, 87, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away May 5, 2026, at Lexington Community Hospice House, South Carolina. She was born on October 14, 1938, in McColl, South Carolina to Alex and Lillian (Goins) Chavis.

Dorothy is survived by two brothers, Jimmy and Johnny (Lynne) Chavis; two sisters, Elva Wilson and Jeanette Foster; two sons, Reese (Ann) Byrd and Larry (Sandra) Byrd; her daughter, LaMonika (Phil) Davis; as well as, nine grandchildren, and twelve great grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her loving husband of almost 60 years, L M. (“Buddy”) Byrd; her infant son, Dennis; and daughter, Dorothy (Gary) Hollis.

The family will receive friends at Thompson Funeral Home-Greenlawn on May 8, 2026 from 11am-12pm. Funeral services will be at Thompson Funeral Home-Greenlawn on May 8, 2026 at 12 pm with Reverend Hugh Ward officiating. Interment will be at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made either Elmwood Church of God, or East Columbia Pentecostal Holiness Church.
