Jacob "Jay" Leon Homer

Jacob “Jay” Leon Homer, 74, of West Columbia, South Carolina, passed away on September 2, 2025. He was born on February 22, 1951, to the late Jacob Homer and Phyllis (Thayer) Homer in Joliet, Illinois.

A true patriot, Jay served his country with honor and distinction for nearly three decades as a U.S. Navy Petty Officer 1st Class. He was a dedicated aircraft electrician who served on the VF103 during the Vietnam Cruise and on the USS Saratoga VF103 for a Mediterranean Cruise. His service was recognized with the Vietnam Service Medal, four Good Conduct Medals, and two Navy Achievement Medals. He was also a three-time Sailor of the Year, an honor he earned in 2003, 2004, and 2007. Additionally, Jay spent over twenty years as an electrician where he operated the electrical department for the Lexington County Recreation and Aging Commission.  While working for Lexington County he met and made many dear friends throughout the community.

Jay's most cherished role was that of a devoted husband, father and Poppy. He shared 43 years of marriage with his beloved wife, Lisa Bullington Homer. He is also survived by his sons: Jaeson Parsons, Brian (Ivey) Homer, and Bradley (Angel) Homer. He was a proud and present Poppy to Cal Homer, Lewis Homer, Owen Homer, Annie-Kate Homer, Jake Homer, Jordan Parsons, Christian Parsons, Conner Parsons, and Zoe Parsons. Jay’s memory will be cherished by his three loving siblings, Greg (Debbie) Homer, Michelle Homer, and Melinda (Rick) Breske.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held at noon on Friday, September 19, 2025 at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
