Michael "Mick" Andrew Geever

Michael Andrew “Mick” Geever, 67, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 21, 2026, surrounded by family and friends.

Born on July 18, 1959, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to Martin “Eamon” and Teresa Geever, Mick is survived by his wife and soul mate Nadini Geever. Between them, they had four children: Jodi (Beatrice), Colin (Maxine), Devin, and Arnaldi (Nicole). Mick was proud of his children, who were always in his heart, and he adored his granddaughter Lorelei. His mother and Devin preceded him in death. Devin was surely waiting for his dad with two surfboards at the best beach. Teresa would round them up for a cup of tea and a chat afterward.

He is survived by his siblings Patrick (Marie), Therese (Joe), Mary (Bob), Lucy (Laurence), Joseph, Margaret “Molly”, Anne (Drew), and Justin (Anna). He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, family and friends.

A graduate of St. Francis School of Nursing and La Roche College, Mick is remembered by his colleagues as a dedicated Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist who put nervous patients at ease by saying, “Don’t worry. This will hurt you more than it will hurt me.”

Mick’s laugh was infectious, his wit acerbic, and his love for friends and family alike boundless. A voracious reader, he introduced many to the infinite worlds of science fiction and fantasy, and took seriously his duty to pass along the gospel of Tolkien and Middle-earth. He loved films that were so bad they were good, punishing puns, cheesy Hallmark Christmas movies, and discussing the rights and wrongs of the world around a well-tended campfire. Spun from his imagination and woven by his extraordinary command of the spoken word, Mick’s stories were the stuff of legend — from Topsol the Dwarf stories for his young daughter to don't-want-to-walk-from-the-campfire-to-the-tent ghost stories.

A talented musician and fiercely proud first-generation Irish-American, Mick was passionate about traditional Irish music. He played the flute, tin whistle, uilleann pipes, bodhrán, and the humble spoons. As if that wasn’t enough, he was blessed with a wonderful singing voice and had a gift for connecting with people, putting them at ease, and drawing them in. Audiences ate from his hand.

A lifelong angler, Mick tied flies and rose at ungodly hours in pursuit of the perfect catch. He could tell a great fish story, and some of them were even backed up by photographic evidence.

Unabashedly liberal in beliefs and politics, Mick championed the downtrodden, dispossessed, and vulnerable. He saw no contradiction in working hard and helping those who need more support. Mick didn’t treat compassion and generosity like pie, as if there were only so many slices; he believed there was more than enough to go around. Extending a helping, protective hand to a stranger was not just the right thing to do in his book but the only way to be.

The hole he leaves behind is too big to fill and the lives he touched too many to count. We already miss him more than words can say.

Visitation and memorial service will be on Tuesday, September 29th at Thompson Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia SC.
