Rena Covington

Jan 31, 1953 — Aug 2, 2026

Sometimes, people are placed in your life to make you feel like you’re home. When Rena walked into a room, it got a little brighter with a warm hug, a shoulder to cry on, or to shake her head and giggle when any of us made an inappropriate joke. She had a gift for loving fiercely, speaking her mind without hesitation, and making everyone feel like family. We are positive she never met a stranger and always welcomed someone new to her family. Although our hearts are broken, we will always hear her telling us how much we are loved and we will cherish every moment we experienced with her.

She was preceded in death by her loving parents, Dawson and Cora Lester; her soul mate and forever love, Michael Covington; her brothers, Jerry Lester and Dean Lester; her sister, Sue Browder; and her grandsons, Matthew Cushman and Justin Chaffin.

She leaves behind a family who will forever cherish her memory: her sister, Devra Lackey (Tal) of West Columbia; her daughters, Angie Steele (Chris) of Eastover and Amy Cushman (Brady) of Eastover; her son, Shawn Covington (Chris Controne). She was a proud and devoted grandmother to Corey Steele, Caitlin Poole (Avery), Ansley Cushman (Steven McKeel), Kamdyn Cushman, Cody Chaffin, and Devon Chaffin. She was also blessed with her treasured great-grandson, TJ Poole, who brought her immeasurable joy and whose smile could always brighten her day.

Though our hearts are heavy with her passing, we find comfort in the countless memories she gave us to include her laughter, her warm hugs, her quick wit, and the way she made everyone feel like family. Her legacy of love, generosity, and unwavering devotion to those she loved will live on in each of us. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

PALLBEARERS: Brady Cushman, Chris Controne, Avery Poole, Corey Steele, Chris Steele, Tal Lackey
