Ruth H. Davis

Ruth Helene Davis , age 93, of Columbia, South Carolina, passed away peacefully at her home on April 16, 2026.

Ruth was born on November 29, 1932, in Kemnitz, Germany, to Hansel Goetschel and Helene Goetschel. She grew up in Bayreuth, Germany, where she later met her husband while he was stationed there. After their marriage, Ruth moved to the United States, where she built a life centered on faith, family, and devotion.

Ruth was a loving homemaker to her husband and children and was known for her kindness, compassion, and deep love for her family—especially her grandchildren. A devoted Christian, she was a faithful member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.

She found joy in life’s simple pleasures, including knitting, crocheting, long walks, reading, solving puzzles, and preparing Sunday dinners for her family after church—moments that became cherished traditions.

Ruth is survived by her daughters, Helen Seals and Lorraine Fleenor; her grandchildren, Lin Seals (Myra), Tim Fleenor (Crystal), Britt Fleenor, and Jimmy Fleenor; and her great-grandchildren, Gabriel Seals, Skyler Fleenor, Adalyn Fleenor, Shannon Fleenor, and Miles Fleenor.

She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James M. Davis Jr., and her son, Jimmy Lee Davis.

A celebration of life will be held on April 21, 2026. A private viewing for family will take place at Thompson Funeral Home, 845 Leesburg Road, Columbia, SC. All are welcome to attend her burial service at Greenlawn Cemetery, 845 Leesburg Road, at 2:30 p.m.
