Ann Steele Person

Ann Steele Person, of West Columbia, S.C., passed away at home on Monday, May 4, 2026, at the age of 89.

A lifelong resident of West Columbia, South Carolina, Ann was the daughter of the late Fletcher and Viola Steele. She was the youngest of 9 children and graduated from Brookland Cayce High School.

Ann married the love of her life, Herman Person, and they spent 68 wonderful years together. They lived in the home they cherished since 1965, and loved welcoming family and friends to their “Happy Place” to gather. Ann loved to decorate her home with pictures of her family to remind her of the love and memories she held close to her heart. She always felt deeply blessed by God for everything in her life.

Outside of her own family, Ann loved caring for other children for many years as a daycare provider. She also loved working outside in her yard.

Ann has found eternal rest alongside her loving husband Herman, her parents, and many siblings. She is survived by her loving family: son, Earl Person; daughter, Pam Ellis; three grandchildren, Brent Bateman (Jennifer), Heather McCants (Kyle), and Ryan Bateman; and five great-grandchildren, Leland Bateman, Bruce Bateman, Korlie McCants, Kallie McCants, and Archer Bateman.

She will be remembered for her kindness, her devotion to her family, and the welcoming home she created for all who knew her.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at 11:30 A.M., with a service beginning at 12:30 P.M., followed by a burial service at Southland Memorial Gardens. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Thompson Funeral Home - Lexington.
