Donald C. Cobler

Dec 14, 1934 — Oct 6, 2026

The family of Donald C. Cobler of both Conway and Lexington, SC is deeply saddened to announce his passing on October 6, 2026, at the age of 91.

Don was born on December 14, 1934, in Roanoke, VA, to George and Anna Bell Cobler. He attended school in Roanoke and after his father died, when he was 14, he decided to drop out of school and go to work to help support his family. He joined the Air Force during the Korean War in 1953. He met his bride, Nora Ann Graves, of Aurora, IN while stationed in California and they married on July 6, 1957. They were immediately stationed to Shaw AFB in Sumter, SC and then to Germany. Nora and Don were married for over 69 years.

After completing his enlistment in 1959, Don and Nora briefly moved back to Roanoke, VA where he tried a few jobs in his hometown. Seems being a police officer and knowing all the moonshiners is not a good fit. Don reenlisted quickly and got stationed back to Shaw AFB in Sumter, SC which became his home base for the remainder of his career. He did one tour in Vietnam and one tour in Thailand. He retired at 20 years and he completed his GED in service. He obtained two associate’s degrees when he retired. He went to work at Woolco in Sumter and later moved to Conway where he worked at CK Supply in Myrtle Beach selling sheetrock and building supplies.

Don enjoyed playing golf and listening and playing music, he enjoyed woodworking, and especially enjoyed sitting on the deck with his wife and dog Daisy Mae.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, his brother George, his sister Joann Huffman, and his sister Mary Cobler.

Don is survived by his wife, Nora Ann of Lexington, SC; his son, Phillip (Deanna) Cobler of Batesburg, SC; their children and Don’s grandchildren Justine (Kyle) Kellett of Eagle River, AK and Brittany (Corey) Pogue of Aiken, SC and Don’s daughter, Linda (Freddie) Rast of Lexington, SC; their children and Don’s grandchildren Robin (Robin) Carruthers of Chapin, SC and Derek (Kaylee) Rast of Lexington, SC. Together these four grandchildren have given Don and Nora 12 great-grandchildren – Avery C, Peyton H, Parker K, Easton K, Sutton C, Brooklyn K, Marek P, Kora R, Reid K, Espn D, Lawson K, and Juno P.

A service celebrating Don’s life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on October 9, 2026, at Chapel of Remembrance Mausoleum, Southern Palms Memorial Garden, 5000 Hwy 17 South, North Myrtle Beach, SC. All who loved Don are welcome to attend and honor his memory.
