Gwendolyn Gray Cashwell

Mar 31, 1965 — Aug 18, 2026

Lexington — Gwendolyn Gray Cashwell was born on March 31, 1965, in Fuquay-Varina, Wake County, North Carolina, to Bobby Gene and Etta Gray Arrington.

Gwen is survived by her loving husband, Philip M. Cashwell; her mother, Etta Gray Ballance (Rod Burgess); and her sister, Ginny Blease (David). She was a devoted mother to Ashley (Ted) and Mitchell and a loving grandmother to Paisley, Henry, Grace, Brody, Sadie, and Mac. She was preceded in death by her loving and caring stepfather, Fleetwood Gayle Ballance.

Gwen graduated from East Forsyth High School in 1983. Her commitment to learning and caring for others continued throughout her life. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Carolina, followed by a Master’s degree from South University and, later, a Doctorate in Nursing Practice.

Gwen and Philip were married on October 23, 2021. She was a wonderful and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who brought tenderness, grace, and love to her family. Her children cherished the tenderness and graciousness she showed them throughout their lives, and her grandchildren brought her tremendous joy.

Throughout her career, Gwen was a loving, gracious, and compassionate medical provider. She cared deeply for every patient she encountered and dedicated her life to helping others experience better, healthier lives. The impact she made on the lives of her patients and the people she cared for will be remembered by many.

Most importantly, Gwen loved her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, in whom she placed her confidence and faith. We take comfort in knowing that she has now heard the words, “Well done, thy good and faithful servant.”
