James "Don" Bledsoe

James Donald “Don” Bledsoe, 84, passed away on September 16, 2026. He was born on October 19, 1941, in Columbia, South Carolina.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Bennie L. Bledsoe Sr. and Jeanette Livingston Bledsoe; his sister, Betty Mizzell; and his best friend, Johnny Barre.

He is survived by his sister, Sandra R. Bledsoe, and his brother, Benjy L. Bledsoe Jr.

Although Don never had children of his own, he was a father in every way that mattered. He is survived by his two nephews, Michael Parker and Keith Bledsoe, whom he loved and thought of as his sons; his adopted son and caregiver, Joe Garner; as well as a host of other nieces, nephews, family members, and friends who loved him dearly.

Don was a graduate of University High School. He went on to become a well-known and highly respected diesel mechanic, building a long career working for several dealerships before eventually partnering with Wayne Davis to start Truck Services of Lexington. His knowledge, skill, and dedication to his trade earned him the respect of many throughout the community.

During the middle years of his life, Don discovered another passion that would become a very special part of who he was—flying. He earned his pilot's license, owned his own airplane, and eventually even bought his own airport. Flying was a reflection of Don's independent spirit, adventurous nature, and love of doing things his own way.

Don also had a special place in his heart for animals. He dearly loved his dogs and his cats. Although he never had both at the same time, each held a special place in his life and brought him great companionship.

Don will be remembered for his independent spirit, his knowledge and skill, his love of flying and animals, and most of all for the relationships he built throughout his life. To those closest to him, he was much more than a brother, uncle, mechanic, or friend—he was family, a father figure, and someone they could depend on.

He leaves behind a lifetime of memories and will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him.
