James Carl Grossman

James Carl Grossman passed away peacefully on August 3, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of cherished memories and the love of his family.

James shared a love and devotion to his wife, Diana, and together they built a life centered on family, and enduring love. Rarely did he leave Diana’s side and the love they have will live on through the hearts of the family that surrounded them.

Not only will James be remembered for his unwavering devotion for his wife Diana, but his 21 years of service in the United States Army, in which he was a flight instructor, and devoted patriot. His love of Clemson Football, and endless traveling with his wife Diana, filled his life with endless joy that his family and friends will remember forever.

Born in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, he grew up surrounded by his loving sisters Wanda Grossman Hale, Johnnie Grossman Batten, and brother Michael Von Huevel. “Butch” as he was affectionately known to them, was a lover of the Dallas Cowboys, Beach Boys, and the Rolling Stones. He enjoyed Old Westerns, MASH, The Andy Griffith show and Bonanza.

Diana and Jim enjoyed cruising and the Caribbean especially. Traveling was at the heart of all they did, and they were always planning their next adventure.

He was the son of Bobbie Nell Judkins Von Huevel and James Carl Grossman. The sister of Wanda Grossman Hale, Nephews Steven Holden and Jason Holden. Sister Johnnie Grossman Batten. Nephew Bryan Smith. Borther Michael Von Huevel.

Jim was the father of Valarie Vallee of Atlanta her husband Matthew Vallee and daughters Caroline Grace Vallee and Catherine Elizabeth Vallee. Erika Huggins and her husband Will Huggins of Columbia and their children William Hudson Huggins and Lennon Hayes Huggins.

Stepson Curtis Fulmer and his wife Muffy and their daughter Merritt.

Sister-in-Law to Gail Crosby and her daughter Erica Crosby and Hannah Hunkin her husband Nick Hunkin and their children Steve Hunkin and Crosby Hunkin.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 13, 2026, 11:00 am at Northside Baptist Church located at 4347 Sunset Boulevard Lexington, SC 29072. Visitation one hour prior to the service.

Entombment to Follow at Fort Jackson National Cemetery located at 4170 Percival Road, Columbia, SC 29229.
