Jimmy L. Asbill
April 25, 1961 — May 1, 2026
Jimmy Lee Asbill, April 25, 1961 - May 1, 2026, age 65, peacefully entered heaven to be with his Lord and Savior on May 1. Present with him was his wife Lynn and cousin Terry.
He was born at the Columbia Hospital in Richland County, and grew up in Springdale, Lexington County, SC.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Shirley Swanson, and her identical twin sister and Jimmy's special aunt, Sharon Guest.
He is survived by his wife Lynn Harley Asbill, his father Willie "Buddy" Asbill, his brothers Jerry Asbill (Connie) and David Asbill (Amy), stepsisters Patty Rosprim, Peggy Sanders, and Pam Steele (Mike). Also, cousins Terry Hair (Sissy), Steve Hair (Tori), and Christy Aldhizer, mother-in-law Sandy Harley, sister-in-law Kim Harley (Kim), and brother-in-law Lee Harley (Erika). There are many, many, beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Jimmy was a graduate of Airport High School Class of 1979 where he excelled in chorus and held the highest adoration for his chorus teacher, Mrs. Frances Maddox. His passion for music and many genres continued throughout his life, but he had a special love of 4-part harmony southern gospel quartet style to which he spent many hours listening and singing. He also enjoyed arranging and singing contemporary songs in church and witnessing to others through his music. He went on to earn a B.S. Degree in Electrical Engineering from Clemson University and his 35-yr manufacturing engineering career in automation and controls spanned NC, SC, GA and Burlington, Ontario, Canada. The last 20 years were spent at Nutra Mfg in both Greenville and Anderson.
Jimmy was an avid Clemson football and baseball fan (he gave up on basketball, there's a story) and enjoyed attending games at home and away with family and friends. He spent many hours every season learning and conversing about the Clemson O and D-lines depth chart with best friend Skip Clark. Jimmy enjoyed ribbing Skip about "his orange-colored glasses". He also loved playing league softball and especially enjoyed when he could be on a team with friend Stuart Jones. Those were cherished memories, and Jimmy often spoke of them. He also was an avid and pretty decent golfer and enjoyed playing most weekends for many, many years. He even recorded a hole-in-one at Midway Par-3 in Myrtle Beach which the newspaper article says was witnessed by his mother and his cousin Terry Hair. He was also an excellent bowler but had not bowled in about 30 years. However, before hanging it up, he bowled an ABC sanctioned 300-game witnessed by family and friends on his team and the entire Post Office League at Star Lanes Bowling Alley. The ABC acknowledged with a ring. Jimmy loved all sports and outings with his brothers and cousins, football, fishing, NASCAR, and the friendly card game was always being planned. Jimmy could also recite by memory all 60 Super Bowl winners and losers in order and did so often for his wife's entertainment. He enjoyed having her spend hours watching Super Bowl reruns and NFL films with him constantly quizzing her about who played where and what records they had set.
Jimmy was devoted to his wife, Lynn, and adored all his pups that spanned several decades, Buster, Sophie, and currently Ellie (a.k.a "Rotten"). It has been said that acquiring our covid baby, Ellie, at the beginning of 2021 contributed highly to Jimmy's will to remain with us after he became ill.
Also, these past several years in his retirement, Jimmy became friends with many, many patrons and staff at the Harbison Outback Steakhouse. They could set their clocks by him, and Kelly knew when to open the doors daily for lunch based on him waiting at the doors. They were all very special to him, giving him love when he needed it, having retired abruptly. He needed a purpose and something to do each day, and they all gave it to him. So much love to Reggie, Ruthie, BG, Rodney, Kelly, and all the others that I have neglected to name (sorry). He participated in many Fantasy Football Leagues with the Outback crowd and very much enjoyed the comradery with them all. Thanks, Harbison Outback family for showing Jimmy much love these past few years! You are a special, special group, and his family is forever indebted to you for your care and concern for him.
Lutheran Hospice was a very special and important part of Jimmy's last 6 weeks. Jimmy enjoyed being doted upon, but he was most appreciative of the dignity, gentleness, love, and care that they bestowed up him. His family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Dr. John Gould, Mary Beth Lamey, Kimberly Anderson, Omekia Jones, Rachel Rister, Kathy Cooley, Todd Oswald, Elizabeth Caulder, volunteers Maddie and Collett. Your devotion and compassion are remarkable and truly felt by caregivers!
Much thanks to Terry Hair, Jimmy's next-in-year-age cousin, for his devotion and love to both Jimmy and Lynn. Terry was always the voice of reason and could persuade Jimmy to comply with health recommendations when Lynn could not. He was always there and never once hesitated to drop what he was doing to assist with the crisis of the day. Terry is an angel on earth earning his wings many times over with other family members in need and taking care of his mother who passed one year ago this week. He was present in Jimmy and Lynn's lives always but especially there these past 8 years.
