Katherine “Kathy” Millsap Cain, 57, wife of Bruce Cain, resident of Lexington, passed away on February 10, 2020.
Born March 23, 1962 in Stuttgart, Germany, she was the daughter of the late John Rhodes and Margaret Mae Thompson Millsap. Kathy was the valedictorian of the Irmo High School Class of 1979 and a 1983 magna cum laude graduate of Columbia International University. She furthered her education at the University of Texas at Arlington receiving her Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics in 1990. Kathy began her career with Wycliffe Bible Translators in 1985 and continued to serve with Wycliffe until her death. She assisted her husband in linguistic and anthropological research and Scripture translation for a language group in South Asia since 1990 and in the training of South Asian nationals for the ministry of Bible translation and language development since 2000. Kathy truly enjoyed her work and the ability to share it with her husband. She was a member of Cornerstone Presbyterian Church of Columbia.
She is survived by her husband of 36 years Bruce Cain of Lexington; a brother David Millsap, his wife Michelle and their daughter Kattie Ann, and David’s children Joel, Jonathon (Corrinne) and Heather and many beloved extended family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11 AM Tuesday, February 25th at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the Sardinia Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Gable, SC. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 PM on Monday at Thompson Funeral Home Lexington Chapel.
Pallbearers will be David Millsap, Jonathon Rhodes Millsap, David Lively, Dave Beine, Mike Thomas, and Allen Jones.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a gift in memory of Kathy be made to support the Siares Language project: Wycliffe Bible Translators, PO Box 628200, Orlando, FL 32862-8200. Include a separate note stating “Preference for 803066 the Siares Project”. This project covers the financial support of mother-tongue speakers of the language and other translation-related needs.
