Richard David Cartner

Aug 1, 1954 — Aug 13, 2026

Richard David Cartner, 72, of Leesville, SC, went home to the Lord on August 13, 2026. He was born in Landstuhl, Germany to Phyllis L. Snelgrove and David L. Cartner. He attended school in Sumter, South Carolina, and later in Hampton, Virginia, where he graduated with honors from Bethel High School. After his graduation, his family returned to South Carolina, and he went on to attend the University of South Carolina, becoming a member of the Zeta Beta Tau fraternity.

In his younger years, he enjoyed playing softball with the church league, and throughout his life he loved playing pool, earning many trophies along the way. He worked as both a carpenter and a locksmith, taking great pride in everything he built. His love for working with wood was evident in the many pieces he crafted for his family, each one made with care. He also had a true green thumb - whatever he planted seemed to flourish.

He leaves behind his wife of 49 years, Teresa S. Cartner; two sons, Richard Cartner (Cheryl) and Robert Cartner; two granddaughters, Hope Spires (Winston) and Sara Hinton; and three great‑grandchildren, with one more on the way. He is also survived by his brother, Randy Cartner (Joyce), his sisters Rhonda Areheart (Steve) and Robbin Goforth, and many nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his mother, father, step‑father DeLeon Calamas, and brother‑in‑law Don Goforth.
