Joseph J. Kelly, 87, of Stony Point, New York, passed away on April 28, 2026, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on September 11, 1938, in the Bedford Park neighborhood of the Bronx, New York, Joe was a man of deep faith and he had an enduring love for his family. He was a graduate of Cardinal Hayes High School in the Bronx.
Joe served the City of New York with distinction as a Lieutenant with the FDNY for 32 years. His courage and commitment to service were hallmarks of a life well-lived. Within the brotherhood of the FDNY, Joe forged lifelong friendships.
A devout Catholic, Joe was a man of principle, kindness, and humor. He was a longtime parishioner of St. Gregory Barbarigo. He was also a proud member of the North Rockland Social Club, where he found a circle of lifelong friends. Joe had a gift for friendship; his loyalty and warmth drew people close. With his family and friends, he found joy on golf courses, hiking trails, campsites, and ski slopes. He was an avid reader, gardener, cook, and world traveler.
Joe is survived by his beloved wife of 63 years, Eileen Kelly; his children, Tracey (Daniel) Blum, Kevin Kelly, Patrick (Nancy) Kelly, Jennifer (Tucker) Lincoln, Sheila (Dan) Coyle, and Andrew (Colleen) Kelly; his grandchildren, Elizabeth & Andrew Blum, Aidan & Ava Kelly, Erin, Patrick & Thomas Kelly, Molly & Annie Lincoln, Liam, Christopher & Kelly Coyle, Morgan, Katie and Jack Kelly, as well as great-granddaughter Reagan Kelly. He cultivated close and loving relationships with each of his grandchildren, and he will be cherished by them all forever. Joe is also survived by his siblings Eileen Walker and Michael Kelly, and many beloved nieces, nephews and in-laws.
He was predeceased by his parents, Marie and John, and his siblings, John Kelly and Nancy O'Donnell.
Visitation will be held on Monday, May 4th, from 4:00 PM to 8:00 PM at T.J. McGowan's Funeral Home, 71 N. Central Highway, Garnerville, New York.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 5th, at 11:00 AM at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, 25 Cinder Road, Garnerville, New York.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Birthright of Rockland County, Nanuet, New York.
