Joseph Meehan of West Haverstraw NY passed away April 27, 2026 at the age of 83.
Born in the Bronx on January 24, 1943, Joe was the son of Mary and Joseph Meehan, and brother to John, Monica, Marguerite, William, Maureen, Joan, and Patricia. Joe graduated from Samuel Gompers Vocational and Technical High School in 1961.
Joe married Lorraine, his high school sweetheart, in 1965 and together they recently celebrated sixty years of marriage! He honorably served in the Army during the Vietnam War in 1966-1968, earning the Purple Heart for his service.
Joe spent his career as a heating technician for Castle Oil. Joe and Lorraine moved to West Haverstraw in 1977.
Joe was Dad to David (Jennifer) and Diane (Paul), and was Grandpa to Emily, Christopher, Erin, Charlotte, Shannon, Matthew, and Daniel. Joe was “Uncle Mickey” to a large extended Irish family of nieces and nephews.
Joe was a longtime volunteer for the Haverstraw Little League, a lifelong fan and critic of NY Yankees / Rangers / Giants, and enjoyed cruising and taking trips to Florida with family.
The visitation is scheduled for Sunday May 3, 2026 from 3 to 7 pm at T. J. McGowan Sons Funeral Home, located at 71 N. Central Highway Garnerville NY.
The burial and flag presentation is scheduled for Monday May 4, 2026 at 11 am at Frederick Loescher Veterans Memorial Cemetary, located at 220 Brick Church Road Spring Valley NY.
