Mary O’Connor

Mary B. O'Connor, beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2026, after a courageous battle with several illnesses. Born on November 12, 1934, in Pomeroy, Northern Ireland, Mary was the cherished daughter of the late Joseph and Mary Nugent (née McCreesh).

She was predeceased by her loving husband, Daniel T. O'Connor, her siblings, Anthony and Peter Nugent, and her dear granddaughter, Dana Van Outryve.

Mary's life was a testament to love, resilience, and dedication. She worked at Chemical Bank for two decades, excelling as a communications supervisor. Her career was marked not only by her professionalism but also by the warmth and kindness she extended to her colleagues.

Her devotion to her family was unparalleled. Mary is survived by sister Vera Glackin; her daughter, Bridget Van Outryve, and her husband Eric; her sons, James J. O'Connor, with his wife Mary, and Charles P. O'Connor, with his wife Valerie.

She leaves behind a legacy of love in her eight grandchildren: James C. O'Connor, Michael Van Outryve (and his wife Forrest), James J. O'Connor (Samantha), Daniel, William, Thomas, Christopher, and Kerry O'Connor.

Her joy was further multiplied by her two great-grandchildren, James W. O'Connor and Matthew Van Outryve.

Mary was a woman of simple pleasures and deep passions. An avid reader and a keen follower of both local and national politics, she found joy in the written word and the world around her. Her love for sports, particularly the NY Mets, was infectious, and she embraced the thrill of the game with enthusiasm.

A devoted member of Immaculate Conception Church, Mary regularly attended mass, finding solace and community within its walls. She relished the art of crochet, creating beautiful blankets that warmed both body and spirit. Her home was a haven of hospitality, especially at Christmas, when she delighted in decorating with festive cheer.

A lover of nature, she tended to her garden with care, welcoming the birds and wildlife that visited her small sanctuary. Mary's heart was as generous as it was welcoming. She was known for her unwavering support of children, always ready with a listening ear and a warm meal for her family and their friends.

Her home was a place of comfort and acceptance, where everyone felt valued and loved. A true defender of the underdog, Mary's life was guided by principles of fairness and honesty.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, September 20, 2026, from 2 PM to 6 PM at TJ McGowan Son’s Funeral Home in Garnerville, NY. A service to honor and celebrate Mary's life will be held on September 21, 2026, at 10:00 AM at Immaculate Conception Church, located at 26 John Street, Stony Point, NY 10980 followed by interment at St. Peter's Cemetery, Haverstraw, NY.

Mary B. O'Connor's life was a tapestry of love, strength, and grace. Her memory will forever be cherished by those who knew her, and she will be dearly missed.
