James E. Ricker Sr. of Stony Point, NY, passed away on August 6, 2026 at the age of 90. Born in Nyack, NY, Jim was the son of the late Ethel and Fred Ricker. In addition to his parents, Jim was predeceased by his wife Patricia Ann (Craven) and their son James E. Ricker Jr. Jim was also predeceased by his brothers Fredrick and Clarence.
Jim was very proud of his North Rockland roots, growing up with his brothers, numerous cousins and countless friends in the Haverstraw area. While in school, Jim was an accomplished athlete and played a crucial role on the North Rockland High School 1954 Hall of Fame basketball team. Jim was a lifelong fan of the Duke Blue Devils.
After graduating from North Rockland High School Jim enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. where he served for three years. Upon his honorary discharge from the military, he married the love of his life, Patti Ann. They raised their son in Garnerville NY and then in Stony Point. Jim was an attentive and involved father who adored his only child. As a family they enjoyed traveling to the Carolina’s, Cape Cod, Bolton Landing and Florida.
Jim looked forward to spending time with his extended family and celebrating the holidays together. He was extremely proud when he became a grandfather to Matthew and Brianna and then a great grandfather to Malina and Jeremiah James.
After retiring from the New City Post Office, Jim enjoyed spending time cultivating his garden and helping his neighbors.
Jim is survived by his grandchildren, Matthew and Brianna Ricker, great grandchildren Malina and Jeremiah James Ramos, daughter-in-law Christine Ricker, brother-in-law Frank Craven and his wife Deborah and brother-in-law Nicholas Fondacaro and long term partner Kathy Berte. He is also survived by his cousin Jack Dianis and his nephews Shawn Craven, Michael Fondacaro, Steven Fondacaro and Christpoher Fondacaro.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, August 12th, 2026, 10am at St. Peter's Church in Haverstraw, NY followed by interment at St. Peters Cemetery, Haverstraw.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Jim’s name to Blood Cancer United, 1201 15th Street N.W., Suite 410 Washington, D.C. 2000.
